Recipe Poetry

Hello Writers!

Today we we look at the ingredients of a good poem.  Our mentor text is a piece called "Fried Rice" by local artist Sherwin.  Sherwin is a kind soul - smart and sweet.  He combines his love of the culinaery arts, his culture, and his fractured relationship with family.  He will be our guest on Thursday.  Let's work with this piece to see if his style and structure may be akin to ours.  If you don't like the heat - get your......

Guest Visit - Ms. Natasha Hooper

Hello Writers!

Today we welcome Ms. Natasha Hooper to our classroom.  Natasha is a fierce force of expression - she writes with purpose and conviction.  She is a member of the 2016 and 2017 SD Slam Teams - the latter just won the National Slam this past summer. Natasha encourages those around her, she holds space by hosting Slam Diego - the newest spoken word scene to hit San Diego.  We are lucky to have her join us today as she continues to support the program every year - visiting our classroom and judging the Spring Slam. Please welcome Ms. Hooper.
